A graduate of today's Columbia University, Alexander Hamilton was an aide-de-camp to General George Washington and went on to conceive the first bank of the United States and the standardization the US currency. He founded the Bank of New York and the New-York Evening Post. The first Secretary of the Treasury, he was mortally wounded in the infamous duel with Aaron Burr.
